I Live

Well, Apparently I caught either Laryngitis or Tonsillitis over the weekend.  YAY.  Saturday I was weak as a kitten weaker as patches tried to beat me up and succeeded Luckily her paws are like padded boxing gloves shes so sweet.  My friend who I was supposed to make sushi with was so very kind and made me soup and came over to keep my weak, delirious ass sane (I was alternating between Nyquil and Dayquil… and as Lewis Black says Your cold doesnt give a shit what time of day it is)

Today I finally feel more myself.  I was better yesterday, but still hitting the Dayquil pretty strong.  Today I woke up feeling pretty dang good.  So thats a plus.  Ive got some training and a lot of housework planned for the next few weeks.  So Im looking forward to a little slower pace of life over the next few weeks. And it is officially down to this

Well, Im rolling off the project tomorrow, and Im flying home for the last time tonight. So gleeee. Some free time at home. (which is good cause I have a boatload of spring cleaning I want to do.)

I have a bunch of plans this weekend, well see what comes together. Tomorrow Im going to at least try to finish the base coat (Skin, flesh wash, and first layer of clothing colours) on my Dark Elf BB team, since they have a game on Monday. Ill post pics when they are done done.

Then Sat morning Im going to go play Lacrosse with the 101 crew (all are invited) down at Sinclair middle school, Sat at just after noon Im going to put my new found leg endurance to the test by going to fight with the fjellborg vikings over near i-25 and Evans. Then Im having a new friend come over to teach me how to make Sushi that evening followed by a movie. Whew thats a long day. Sunday I think Im going to sleep all day Sunday. Or I may do a bar-b-q. Who knows at this point.

Monday the Dark Elf team the Black Nightshades take on the Chaos team Adaptation in the 1st half of a weekend double header, with game 2 being the recently damaged Aesir vs the Waaaaaghhh. See here for current league stats and standings.

Random notes ESPN should actually have a statistician on staff before spouting idiocy. Any gamer on earth knows what 5% is. Its one in 20. Now, on the NBA draft, Sportscenter yesterday likened the Portland trailblazers winning of the draft lottery (in which they had a 5.33% chance) as unlikely as rolling snake eyes on two dice twice in a row. Or that it was like flipping a coin 10 times and having it come up heads all 10. For those that know stats Rolling back to back snake eyes is 1 in 1296 (1 in 36 chance once then multiplied by itself.). And the flipping thing is close, only its 5 flips, not 10. 10 would be 1 in 2^10 or 1 in 1024. Whereas 5 flips is 1 in 2^5 or 1 in 36 much closer (4 flips is only 1 in 16). Everything ESPN listed is a LOT harder than a critical success on a d20. Sigh.

Random notes 2, Anyone want to go bowling? Ive got that new ball and I want to try it out.

3, Im addicted to iTunes someone please stop me. I just bought 2 more albums (Rammsteins Mutter very nice, and a replacement for a Smashing Pumpkins album I lost.)

4, Im supposed to be finishing up a data dictionary, but HAD to take a break. To much documentation makes Voodoos eyes all cockeyed.

Normally I wouldn't gloat when someone loses

But for THIS I'll make an exception.  To the Detroit Red Wings, you got EXACTLY what you deserved when you signed that thug Todd Bertuzzi.  When a DISNEY franchise bounces you out of the playoffs, you KNOW the hockey gods hate your guts.  I am beyond pleased that bertuzzi will not get even a chance to play for a championship.  The only way he should ever be allowed to touch the cup is if Steve Moore wins it and decides to use his day with it to beat Todd senseless with it.

Congrats Jeff Sonke

Named MLLs offensive player of the week for his sock trick (6 goals) on Sat in the Outlaws season opening win (21-14) over the SF Dragons.

Frankly, the game wasn’t even that close.  I thought the defense played fantastic, with only a few legit goals against.  Tierney twice wandered out of the crease and gave up empty net 2 point goals.  So if we just put him on a 10 foot bike chain we should reduce the number of points against by at least 4.  The game will be replayed on Thursday night on Fox Sports rocky mountain if anyone is interested.

I'm quite happy

First, as Ive mentioned before, Im trying to spend a good deal of time on the stationary bikes here in the hotel in CA.  Its paying off.  I went and played around with the LAX 101 crew on Sunday morning, and my legs are MUCH stronger than they used to be.  I was able to run for quite a while before dropping.  Probably the best conditioned on the field Sunday (only cause the former CU player didnt show J ).

Second, I scored my first behind the back goal!!  We had a goalie in net who was doing pretty well.  I cut from the left side of the net to the right.  I saw him shift just a bit to follow my movement and I whipped the stick behind my head to completely change the angle of approach.  Bingo, blew right by the stick side as the net minder was shifting I tell you, it wasnt much compared to what the pros will do but it felt great.  Mainly because I saw it happening and everything on me (stick, ball, feet) went right where I wanted it too.  I LOVE that feeling.

HAPPY DAY

When you travel a lot, its the little things that make everything worthwhile.  Ive reached Ascent status on Frontier, which means that I can select an exit row as a seat when I buy tix now.  For someone of my 60 frame, this is a VERY good thing J.

Well,

Sorry Mei-Mei the expansion team is going to Boston.  Good town, but now the league is even more imbalanced for the east/west divisions.  Sigh.  Oh well...  If the west would start putting up decent attendance numbers outside of us crazies in Denver maybe itll happen.

Jobs I don't like to do.

So, things here in So Cal are winding down.  The rumor is that during the maintenance phase well be down to 8 hour days.  Frankly, I laugh at that, but its at least a noble goal.  Were currently down to 11 hour days thats not too bad.

That said, were in a documentation mode There is nothing that fights insomnia quite like writing technical guides.  Zzzzzzz.  But it has to be done and thats why I get paid.  Hopefully Ill have the majority of this wrapped up today and can just tweak it during the maintenance weeks.  I feel like a kid pushing peas around his plate, but now all thats left on the plate are those damn peas.  Oh well, if only they were edamame.

The NLL is going to announce its 14th team this afternoon.  Im really crossing my fingers for Seattle as its a great town and should be a lot of fun to go to a road trip there.  Well know more this afternoon.

I also HAVE to turn my sprinkler system on when I get home.  I keep forgetting to do it and I think my front yard is going to die.  I think Im also gong to call Truegreen.  I used them a few years ago and my lawn looked great its not so good now.  I think I need professional help (for many things J )

Well, Im back to my stupid data dictionary (sigh).

Not going to get my hopes up.

I just got word from one of the regional directors that there is some potential work in denver that they may want my involvement with. This work could be spinning up quite soon. So that could be really cool.

Unequiviqal proof that I'm crazy

The bowling outing from Sat had me remembering how much I enjoyed bowling but it did make me think that the free ball I have from WAYYYY back when I was in a league isnt Me enough.  Soooo

I bought this.  Now THAT is a ball thats more my style.  Even if I only bowl 1 or 2 times a year, having this level of style is SOOOO worth it.

Competition

Those of you that know me well, know that Im very competitive. I do NOT like to lose at all and will strive to do anything to keep from doing so. A few months ago the team went go Karting and there were some pretty good prizes given out. (Fastest lap time got a PSP) Last night we went bowling as a team, and I did well.. Highest average and highest game (135, 136, 154 not steep competition by any standard). However, after all the games had been played, the manager (who I have had a bit of a conflict with in the past) on this project put everyone’s name in a hat, and drew randomly for a Nintendo Wii. Needless to say, I didnt get it. Im not terribly concerned with the prize, but I question the motivations of our leadership here. Cest la vie. Cant win them all (which is an ironic phrase cause I DID win this one). *EDIT*, I did get a $50 American Express Gift Card... so I'm not AS dissapointed now.

Anyhow, life is pretty good. Its Sunday morning and I was up till 2 at the dinner and bowling function. I had this truly amazing scallops dish last night. Ive never gotten the hang of cooking scallops, and these were pan seared perfectly. The meat was sweet and the texture was like butter Phenomenal.

Sadness

This is one of the saddest things Ive read in a long time.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070504/od_nm/india_grave_dc_1 .  Sorry to share, but this kind of thing just makes an impact on me.

Thoughts on being male

I look at myself in the mirror this morning and have to say, I enjoy being who I am.

However, I do envy women for a few things.  One of those is jewelry.

Men have so few choices without coming across as having no taste or being completely gaudy.  A simple ring and a watch is typically the only things the male gender will wear.  I look awful with an earring, so Im not going to wear one. I dont own a good watch, I think I may have to correct that.  Women however have so many choices, necklaces, bracelets, watches, earrings, anklets (sexy), rings on any finger (although a thumb ring is a bit odd), toe rings, and shoes can even be an accessory.

That said Im making a fashion change here at work.  I bought a very simple and nice stainless steel band for my right hand (I like the steel look, I find it fitting for the internal warrior I find myself striving to re-connect with) and have started wearing french cuff shirts.  This allows for a less common form of jewelry expression that is truly masculine cufflinks.  I only have two french cuff shirts at the moment., and one pair of links (also a lovely stainless steel).  But Im going to have to change that over the next month or so.  Ive been making really good coin lately and eating less so I think I should splurge and pamper myself a little.

Two things

Last nights Heroes was phenominal, I didn't see the twist coming (no spoiler, but it surprised me!) . I also LOVE the future Peter. I really like his look.

Second, Wil Wheaton is a great writer. Check out his latest blog, the second to last line particularly is the one that gets me, as it reminds me of me.
